Last Saturday a 7.8 earthquake devastated the coastal area of Ecuador. While it was felt strongly in Quito, there were no serious damages or injuries, including all of us. Yet, since then, the continuing news is heartbreaking. There are now 577 confirmed dead with others still missing, over 4000 injured, and over 25,000 who will need to live in shelters that are being set up at the time of this writing.
Positively, the national people have responded by donating food, clothing and medicines to be taken to the affected areas. So many have gone to the affected areas that the government is asking for people to just focus on more donations, leaving the "on site" volunteer force to be comprised primarily of those trained for such efforts.
As a ministry we have been organizing efforts to purchase and send through the proper channels the things that the government is asking for, mainly food, medicines, living supplies (blankets, tents, mattresses, etc.) and light clothing. We are also investigating how we will be organizing for the long term, organizing teams and resources in coordinated efforts with some of the strategic organizations that are at work here.
Any and all donations toward this effort will go to the purchasing of the materials most needed at the time, and will be channeled through the most effective means possible here. You can give through our website and utilize the "Cotopaxi Relief Fund" button to make your donations or send a check with a note marked "Earthquake Relief". In the near future we will change the name of the button to simply "Relief Fund". Please pray and ask God what He would lead you to do. Please click here to give
